The inaugural meeting of the Christ Church Men’s Group was held in the ‘upper room’ at 7pm at the Royal Oak on Friday, 25th September, 2009 when thirteen of our men (the number was purely coincidental!) gathered for fellowship and discussion.

It has been agreed that meetings will normally be held each month and that the day will be varied in order to accommodate all those who would like to attend.

Arrangements are in hand to take advantage of longer daylight during the summer months for outings of specific interest to some members. Details of these will be advertised here and in the Christ Church weekly 'News for the Pews' as appropriate. Occasionally, at some of our meetings, visitors will be invited to attend to speak or lead discussion. In order to defer travelling costs, etc. of visitors, it has been suggested that group members should pay an annual subscription of £10.

When meetings take place at the Royal Oak, those attending should meet in the lounge bar at 7.00pm before moving to the private upstairs room where meetings usually take place. The meetings will be informal with those attending partaking of food and drink as required.

If you are interested in joining the group then contact either Ken Taylor (722400) or the Rev. Geoff Jaques (722979).

May Meeting

The Church Men's Group are planning to go to the Durham Mystery Plays on Thursday, 27th May. The whole cycle of 10 plays is performed beginning at 5.30 at the Gala theatre followed by a second play at 6.30 in the Cathedral and at 7.30 the remaining 8 plays will be out doors at the Sands (seating not provided at the Sands but people are welcome to bring folding chairs, rugs etc.). The cost for the whole evening is £20 - £15 for concessions. If you would like a ticket, or to find out more, contact Geoff Jaques by Wednesday, 12th May.

July Meeting

There is to be a visit to York Minster on Saturday, 10th July, leaving Great Ayton at around 12 noon and returning around 7.30pm. Full details of this trip can be found in the email from Geoff Jaques dated 23rd April or on the Church website. There is a list at the back of Church for the names of these wishing to go. Please put your name on the list as soon as possible as we need to book for the optional guided tours but we need to do this early.
